If you’re a Steve Martin fan, (which I have been since the first time I saw The Jerk) you’ll love this clever and imaginative alphabet book. Written as much for adults as for kids, this romp of a read is a delight for all ages. This is not “A is for Apple” and “B is for Boy.” Instead, Martin gives us bad baby bubbleducks with bashed-up bananas and Roberta the robot, resplendent in rubies. After reading this line: “Double-U’s wonderful but it worries me
Shouldn’t it weally be called Double-V?” my first grader really got to thinking and insisted that we make this change, too.

Roz Chast, whose cartoons have appeared in the New Yorker since 1978, brings these alliterative rhymes to life with hilarious illustrations. This is the best alphabet book since Dr. Seuss’s ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book which I’m embarrassed to say my husband and I could actually recite verbatim for quite some time.
