Family Travel Ideas: Best Resort Kids’ Clubs

In what will be welcome news for harried parents desperately in need of a break, HotelsCombined, the world‘s leading hotel discovery and price comparison website, has announced the hotels around the world boasting the best kids clubs.

“A great kids club is a win-win for parents and their children – kids have a ball and parents can enjoy some much deserved quiet time. When ranking each kids club we considered offerings like type and range of activities, whether the staff are qualified child-care workers, opening hours and age range of children welcome at the club,“ said HotelsCombined‘s Head of PR and Community Relations, Kristen McKenzie.

“The kids clubs on our list offer activities ranging from camel riding to ice skating, glass bottom boat cruises, cooking lessons, reggae jam sessions and everything in between. Some kids clubs are happy to look after babies and others will keep teens aged up to 18 years amused.

“Travellers with young children really do have a wealth of choice – whether it be a glamorous family trip to Barbados or a getaway to Australia’s Gold Coast.“

Things We Love – Shred: The Revolutionary Diet

Shred: The Revolutionary Diet: 6 Weeks 4 Inches 2 Sizes
Shred: The Revolutionary Diet: 6 Weeks 4 Inches 2 Sizes

From the bestselling author of The Fat Smash Diet comes this helpful new diet book promising big results for people who are struggling to lose that last 20 pounds.

Many of us know firsthand how it gets more difficult to lose weight as we get closer to our goal. This book is designed to help you push through the plateaus when your previous weight loss efforts have stopped working.

Dr. Ian K. Smith has created this program, which combines a low Glycemic Index diet with meal spacing and meal replacements. (Dieters on the Shred Diet plan will be eating every three and a half hours, so it helps you keep your blood sugar – and moods – in check). The diet is composed of 6 week cycles, which you can repeat as often as you need to get the results you want. Dr. Ian puts the average weight loss for a cycle between 18 and 25 pounds.

What we love about the Shred diet is its inherent flexibility. Dr. Ian offers solid education about what works to push through frustrating plateaus and he provides specific guidelines to follow, but he emphasizes that, once you get an understanding of the Shred philosophy, you’ll be able to eat anywhere and know that you have the ability to both enjoy yourself (and food) while staying lean.

We also love that the focus is on eating a variety of healthy foods and on paying attention to meal spacing. As Dr. Ian says “the timing of your meals and snacks can be a reason why you are or aren’t losing weight.”

Dr. Ian has launched “Shredder Nation,” which you can get a taste of online. Get free tips by following Dr. Ian on facebook (facebook.com/shreddernation), Twitter (@doctoriansmith) and via his website: doctoriansmith.com. The book is available at amazon for preorder (with a release date of January 10).

Disclosure: An advanced reading copy of Shred: The Revolutionary Diet was provided to Momscape free of charge for review purposes. The opinions expressed are our own.

Five Fun, Free Christmas Apps

gingerbread-crazy-chef

If you have a long winter’s drive to grandmother’s house this holiday season, help your child to download one of these five, fun Christmas apps – sure to entertain the entire family.

Hungry Santa
Fatten up Santa before Christmas. Tilt the device to move Santa’s mouth under falling treats, but watch out for the healthy broccoli. Santa gets fatter and fatter as he chomps on all the goodies. Give him some fatty bonuses by bouncing the treats off his belly before he eats them, or eating long strings of treats all in a row. Go for the elusive “Crazy Chomp” bonus. You can’t play this one without laughing out loud.

gingerbread-crazy-chefGingerbread Crazy Chef Cookie Maker
The tradition of leaving cookies for Santa has never been as fun and no-fuss as this. Gingerbread Crazy Chef is an innovative app that kids and parents can use together to create the most colorful, playful and crazy holiday cookies to leave for the Jolly Old Elf on Christmas Eve. Choose the shape, mix the ingredients and make “digital cookies” for Santa. Best of all? No mess and no clean-up! Great for kids, families and parents with children.

Cut the Rope: Holiday Gift
From the creators of Cut the Rope, comes the Special Holiday Gift game, which combines all the outstanding physics, devilishly tricky levels, and bright colorful visuals of the original — with a festive winter feel. SHAKE your iPhone for a special surprise! Swipe your finger to cut the ropes and feed Om Nom candy. Don’t forget to collect stars as you play. Think before you cut, and be sure to avoid spiders, spikes and other obstacles … getting that candy to Om Nom won’t be easy!

Santa’s Village
The perfect game for the whole family. Help Santa by building a bigger and better village, and save Christmas from being ruined by the Grumpkins. Start by building homes for Santa’s elves, create a toy factory and make lots of toys, teach reindeer how to fly, and meet magical neighbors like Yobo the Yeti. Unlock special buildings and colorful decorations to make your village even merrier.

Snowman Maker Plus
The weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful … and since we’ve no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Yes, you can sit by the fire AND build an adorable, realistic looking snowman when you play Snowman Maker.
