The Young Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Running a Business
This book was written by Steve Mariotti, who saw the need to provide essential
information about starting and running a business to budding young
entrepreneurs.
Steve Mariotti is an author and the founder of Network For
Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), a non-profit organization that empowers and
teaches youngsters how to start and run their own business.
The book covers lots of topics important and relevant to any business. Young
readers learn about the characteristics of entrepreneurs in general, how to
develop a business idea, how to protect their inventions and ideas, and how to
write a business plan. The author also talks about advertising, the importance
of market research and how to establish a brand.
In my opinion the book benefits greatly from the featured case studies of
successful entrepreneurs, who started in their youth, such as Steve Jobs and
Stephen Wozniak – Apple Computers, William McGowan – MCI, Tom Monaghan –
Domino’s Pizza.
Steve Mariotti also describes his own personal story from being a high school
teacher to becoming the founder of NFTE. The included sample business plan and
business plan workbook are invaluable tools.
Overall, I find that the personal stories of successful people make this book a
very interesting read for young people, but also adults. It provides all
necessary information about starting and successfully running a business in a
clear and easy to read language and would – in my opinion – make a fantastic
resource for any young entrepreneur.
