How to Lose Weight Online

How to Lose Weight Online?

The online world has made it easier than ever to lose weight. You'll find free (and almost-free) tips, apps, programs – plus forums, communities and blogs for weight loss motivation and education.

Here's a rundown of some of our favorite online tools to help you lose weight online.

1. Online weight loss tools – free or premium?

This article will list a number of free options, but many people opt for paid diet programs.

Why?

Two main reasons:

1. Quality. Weight Watchers Online, for example, has a whole team of people who are ready and able to help you lose weight online. The program is tested, and it works. I personally lost 25 pounds from Weight Watchers about 8 years ago, and I've kept it off. This program gets my highest recommendation. It's inexpensive, there's no prepackaged food to buy, and the emphasis is on helping you gain better, healthier eating habits that you can maintain your whole life.

2.  You might discover that you demonstrate a higher level of commitment if you pay a nominal fee to participate in the program. In other words, if you are forking out some dough, you are more apt to take your weight loss program seriously. When I started Weight Watchers and I knew that I was paying by the month, it felt like a program that I couldn't just go on and off whenever I felt like it. (There are some online Weight Watchers coupons, right now, as well, which makes it only about $60 for your first three months to participate fully in Weight Watchers Online, which includes all of your online weight loss tools. )

And when I decided it was time to get serious about working on my strength and flexibility, I started P90X. If I had downloaded these same workouts for free, I might have more of a tendency to blow them off each day. But because it was a chunk of change, I've taken the 90-day program very seriously.

Free Online Weight Loss Tools

1. Diet and Nutrition Trackers. Whether you choose a paid or free online weight loss tool, your first step is going to be to determine how many calories you can eat and still lose weight. Then you'll use that information to decide on your daily calorie range and your exercise plan.

Weight Watchers Online has a free app that goes along with the program to help you track your points (your daily food and exercise.) But there are free online weight loss apps, as well.

Try:
Lose It! Free app, which tracks your calorie intake and physical activity.

2. Online diet forums
. This kind of online forum, whether paid or free, is a great support community when your motivation starts to fade. If you feel like reaching for a snack, login to the forum instead. Someone will be there ready to encourage you.

Try:
3 fat chicks on a diet Weight Loss Community.

3. Get motivated with Fun Fitness Apps

Again, not all of these are free, but they are all very inexpensive. Some start out free and offer premium add-ons.

Nike Training Club
This app brings you 85 custom-built workouts and drills, including workouts with celebrities, celebrity trainers and pro athletes. Free.

iTreadmill Pedometer Ultra with PocketStep

This app is recommended by WeightWatchers, Harvard Medical, Women's Health, & Men's Fitness!
iTreadmill tracks your steps, distance, time, speed and calories burned. And it lets you set goals and receive alerts as you progress. Also features a music player that brings in tunes from your iPod. $1.99.

C25K
C25K is based on the popular program that takes you from couch potato to 5K runner in 2 months.

And, if you have chosen a premium diet plan, such as Medifast, NutriSystem, or Weight Watchers, you'll find newsletters, information, forums, apps, and more that cater to your individual diet plan, as well.
