Baby Gift Ideas
Here are the latest additions to the Momscape Great Gifts Blog, in the categories of Baby Gifts and New Mom GiftsHere are more gift ideas we love, from one of our favorite online merchants, Uncommon Goods:
Whether you have been invited to a christening or baby shower or you just want to send your best wishes, it is important (and sometimes difficult) to find a unique and special baby gift.
Ideally, the gift will be something the child will come to treasure as she grows older.
Here are a few more ideas, many of which are readily available online.
Personalized baby gift ideas
1. A Letter from the President. It's a little known fact, but every new American baby can receive a welcoming card from the President and First Lady. All you need to do is write to the White House to request it: Send the baby's name, birthdate and address to: The White House, Attn: Greetings Office, Washington, DC 20502-0039. You can also fax your request to 202-395-1232 or fill out the online request form accessible here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/#This is a great (and free) way to make a child feel important from the very beginning.
2. A Keepsake Box. A beautiful carved wooden box, personalized with the baby's initials, can make a great place for storing treasures like the first snipped lock of hair and the first lost tooth. 3. A Book about the Baby's Name. Find an attractively bound book and use it collate all the information you can find about the baby's name, including its meaning and origin and profiles of mythological characters and famous people who have shared it. You might also wish to add information about the baby's birthday, such as the first page of the local newspaper or The New York Times from the date of the child's birth.
4. A Treasure Chest of Advice. Write down pieces of advice that you think will be useful to a growing child on pieces of paper (or gather such advice from friends and relatives). Then roll them up and bind them with ribbons. Store them in a small wooden chest. 5. A Beginner's Guide to Everything. Use an attractive, child-friendly book (with big writing) to create lists of good starting points for finding out about the world. Include book recommendations on different subjects, lists of websites and advice on which relatives and friends of the family can help with different sorts of question. 6. The Red Envelope Collection. RedEnvelope.com is one my very favorite online gift stores, and they have some amazing personalized gifts. This site often isn't the most frugal option, but whenever I order from Red Envelope, I can be sure that the gift will be quality and will be meaningful to the recipient. Plus, for about five dollars more, you can have the item packaged in a beautiful red box with an ivory grosgrain ribbon, which is a pretty classy touch.

10. Baby Memory Books.
Pictured
is the
Baby Memory Book from Red Envelope.com. This book will help the new mom
capture and record all of the milestones without taking a lot of time to
do so. From RedEnvelope.com: "From first words to first steps, babies seem to
pass a milestone a minute, and each is equally precious. With all the right
questions asked—and a place for all their cherished 'scraps'—this scrapbook
makes every memory last a lifetime. The cover is wrapped with pink or blue
fabric and has four frames that hold favorite baby or family pictures,
handprints or footprints and a name plaque. Inside, the book has pages for
recording the birth story and details, accounts of birthdays, doctor's visits,
holidays and even pop-culture events and consumer-goods prices at the time of
baby's birth, among many other details. Exclusively from RedEnvelope."

11. Photo Gifts. Online photo sites
allow you to do amazing things with photos, really fast. In many cases, all you
need to do is plug in your pictures to the site's templates and you have a neat
personalized photo gift the recipient will treasure... and one that looks like
it took hours to create. Here are some
easy ways to make photo keepsakes, including photo mugs, albums, and more.

12. An ever-growing ark. A simple Noah's
ark toy can be made extra special if you go on to supply new animals for it on
special days throughout the child's life - starting, of course, with big ones
which can not be easily swallowed.
13. A lifetime magazine subscription. Several leading magazines offer
lifetime subscriptions, so why not take full advantage by getting them early on?
Even if the baby isn't ready to star reading right away, he or she will later
enjoy having these things to look back on. Visit your favorite magazine's
website (or call the subscription office listed in the latest issue) to find out
if the magazine of your choice offers such a subscription.
14. A star in the sky. Name a star after the baby and he will always know
he is special. He will be able to gaze up into the night sky and know that
somewhere out there is a world of his own.
